7 March 2013
The lecture and piano recitals were organized to help raise funds for the renovation of Steinway Grand Piano, vintage 1911, which the Polish Consulate General owns and uses during its cultural events for the local Polish-American community and its other partners. Held at the Polish Consulate General in Chicago and Dr. Kornelia Król’s residence, the recitals were performed by Marek Żebrowski, Director of the Polish Music Center, University of Southern California and Artistic Director of the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles, California, with the guest appearance of Igor Lipinski, Doctoral Candidate in Musical Arts, Northwestern University in Evanston. The performance during the second recital was enriched by the guest appearance of the Polish-born soprano Brygida Bziukiewicz-Kulig. The lecture about I. J. Paderewski's links with Chicago was delivered by Piasist Marek Żebrowski.
The Steinway Grand Piano, vintage 1911, Model A, belongs to a class of the best Steinway grand pianos ever built, which was during the years 1900 to 1930. The soundboard of these pianos is of superb quality, giving them the most beautiful sound among all instruments, and thus making them the most desirable of pianos ever. The construction and workmanship as well as the superior scale design of these pianos has been without equal.
Thanks to the generous support of the benefactors, both in attendance and away, and to the co-organizers’ generous in-kind assistance as well as to the artists’ world-class performance, the renovation of this fine instrument will soon be possible. The renovated Steinway Grand Piano will be a valuable asset for many cultural events to come and will contribute to promoting Poland as well as many Polish and Polish-American musical talents invited regularly to play at the Polish Consulate General in Chicago.SEE MORE
